SUMMER READING:
FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 1ST THROUGH 5TH GRADE IN 2024-2025

Five of the books that an elementary student reads in the summer can count toward their goal of reading 25 – 30 books in the next school year.  In order to meet the standard for proficient readers, students need to read at least 25 books each year.  See the Elementary Summer Reading List for Students Entering 1st through 5th Grade in 2024-2025.

Realizing that children learn best when they actively construct their own knowledge, when the learning is purposeful and meaningful to them, and when they interact and talk with one another, the elementary curriculum in the Souderton Area School District is rich with experiences for active engagement. Over the past six years the courses in the elementary schools have all been rewritten to our district standards, providing children with multiple opportunities to develop as learners within a social context.

The core subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies are the heart of the elementary curriculum. Additionally, children have an Art, Music, Physical Education and Library class at least one time per four-day cycle. All elementary schools have Guidance Counselors, Reading Specialists, Instructional Support teachers, Learning Support teachers and Challenge teachers.
