School Closing

Occasionally it is necessary to cancel school due to inclement weather or other kinds of emergencies. For example, school may be closed for electrical, heating or water problems. All closings will be carried on radio station WNPV (1440 AM on your dial), Channel 3, 6, 10 and KYW radio 1060. Since it is impossible to make contact with each family during an emergency, we encourage you to tune into WNPV, or look at the district Web site (www.soudertonsd.org).

We encourage you to tune into WNPV since that station will refer to the school district by name for closings, delayed openings,* or early dismissals due to inclement weather.

The Philadelphia stations get their information from Philadelphia Central Control which has given each district a certain number. The Souderton Area School District number is 309. In addition to the radio and TV station announcement, we will be using our emergency notification system, SchoolMessengerTM.

The SchoolMessengerTM service will enable us to personally communicate with parents about emergency situations, school events and important issues impacting their children. The service allows the District to send personalized voice messages to each family's home, work or cell phone. Essentially, the school district can make one phone call that reaches all students' families within minutes. The District also delivers messages via e-mail and text/SMS. Depending on the nature of the announcement, the system calls one or all phone numbers that are currently in our student information database. It is important that SASD schools have all students' families' current telephone numbers so that they will not miss out on any important communications.

Please see below for important information regarding maintaining your communication information with the District:
